ENTREPOWER GAME
The ENTREPOWER Game is part of a series of interventions on entrepreneurship development. The game is inspired by the CEFE (Competency based Economies thru Formation of Entrepreneurs) that cites experience is the best teacher. The ENTREPOWER Game is primarily an entrepreneurship development intervention for the poor families/persons in urban areas to motivate them to become entrepreneurial by starting a business and not be dependent on others to improve their economic situation.
CEFE is an experiential or "learning by doing" approach that develops personal competencies through guided self analysis, stimulates enterprising behavior and builds up business competencies through various exercises in the training. It is a participant-oriented (facilitating, rather than teaching) and action-oriented (emphasizing practice rather than theory). Thus, there is a minimum of lectures and maximum of action learning exercises, hence transforming the classroom into a microcosm of the real business world/situation. The methodology enables the participants to discover for themselves the learning points of experiential values and to internalize their application into their own environment.
Objectives:
At the end of the entrepreneurship course using this game, participants will be able to:
- Realize the futility of employment to attain financial situation
- Analyze how the poor can effectively improve their economic situation
- Analyze the value of injecting innovation and creativity in entrepreneurship
Description :
The Game is played in three modules:
Module 1:
The participants will play the role of employees and squatters. Because of their low, fixed salaries, they will not be able to escape poverty. The objectives of this module is to make them realize the importance of entrepreneurship, to motivate them to go into business
Module 2:
The participants will start their own business through government loans. But because they do not innovate, they saturate the market with same uncreative products. They end up with a huge inventory of unsold products and they could not pay their loan interest. Their situation becomes worse than during employment.
The objectives of this module are to:
- Teach them basic competencies in starting and managing a business
- Guide them in identifying, generating, screening and selecting project ideas
- Impart to them the importance of innovation, creativity in sustaining the business activity
Module 3:
The participants are encouraged by government to innovate. Because of this, they are able to capture a big market share. They obtain huge sales. They are able to meet all their financial obligations. They are able to buy their own house and lot.
The objective of this module is to make them see the economic benefits of going into business.
