Small Enterprise Development Course

The program Small Enterprise Development Course is a 6 days intensive training program that will enable the participants to gain basic understanding on small enterprise and acquire competencies that can help them to effectively assist this sector, specifically entrepreneurial capability assessment/building, business opportunities identification/selection, business plan preparation, loan facilitation with banking institutions, research and information, and market linkaging/networking.

Objectives: At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • understand the importance of small enterprise development in the light of Philippine Development framework
  • acquire knowledge and skills on the following
    • entrepreneurial capability building
    • opportunity identification
    • business plan preparation
    • basic business counseling
  • render supplementary counseling, and networking activities to provide needed follow-up services to make entrepreneurs and enterprises sustainable and successful
The course has the following modules:

Module 1 Program Overview - is an introductory session on information on overall economic development plan of the Philippines, the role of small and medium enterprises in this development plan, basic understanding on small enterprise, their needs in different stages of growth, the SICAP program as an intervention of DTI to assist develop the sector, the tasks of the SICAP Volunteer

Module 2 Entrepreneurial Capability Building - is a session focusing on the entrepreneur, (assessing his needs, his competencies, his strengths/weaknesses, his vision/goals, his values) a very crucial factor in the success of a small enterprise.

Module 3 Identification, screening and selection of Business opportunities - is a session on the different techniques of generation/identification of business opportunities which confront the entrepreneur, of screening and selecting the business project which is suitable to the entrepreneur as discovered in Module 1.

Module 4 Preparation of Business Plan - is a session on understanding the four aspects of small enterprise, process of preparing a business plan on the selected business project, and the importance of undergoing this process in any business endeavor.

Module 5 Presentation and counseling skills - is a session on techniques in presenting the business plan to bankers/stakeholders, and giving follow up services (basic advice/information on the business plan) to the entrepreneur.
